Comparative Religions - Islam Day 1

Today Thursday 14th April we began our look into Islam. We began by watching a video of three very different Muslims as they made preparations to go on the sacred Hajj. Students got a chance to see Muslims outside of the stereotypical view that many Americans have and at the same time learn a little about the belief structure of Islam.

Comparative Religions - Buddhism Day 2

Today Wednesday 13th April we spent more time discussing Buddhism. The concepts of Buddhism are in some ways much different from Western thinking and so we needed more time to cover the concepts of samsara (reincarnation), dharma (natural law), and karma (the idea that our actions return to us). Students than spent time analyzing the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.

Comparative Religions - Buddhism

Today Tuesday 12th April we spent our time correcting the assignment from Judaism and then discussing Buddhism. Students were taught about the origin, founder, and basic belief system of Buddhism. Students will spend time tomorrow discusing the Four Noble Truths as presented in Buddhism and analyze the Eightfold Path a outlined.

Comparative Religions - Judaism

Today Monday 11th April we read a packet on the basic beliefs and structure of Judaism. This packet covered cultural traditions such as baby naming, marriage, dietary restrictions, etc. We also learned about the structure and layout of synagogues and the activities inside a synagogue.
